Why did your family move here?
"We moved here because a job brought us here."
Special family memories are:
"I remember cooking rice for my family over a wood fire every day and walking from home to town in 15 minutes. I remember playing soccer almost every day with my brothers and doing chores on our farm. Our family built a new house every two years and we would build it together."
What major changes took place in the world during your childhood?
"I was two when the Vietnam War ended. Many Vietnamese people fled the country, but I stayed."
What cultural food and traditions are celebrated in your family?
"We celebrated Vietnamese New Year and hired someone to kill a pig to eat. We also had rice cakes and Vietnamese Coffee using the beans that we grew."
Describe how education has changed during your lifetime.
"Education has brought me from a small village, to a large city, then to America."
Was education stressed in your family? Please explain.
"It was very important in my family. It was the most important priority and kids were expected to learn."
What would you LIKE students to learn in school that you feel in important?
"Basic math and science."
Major events that occurred during your life that impacted society and/or government most? (i.e. Civil Rights movement, Space Program, Leaders, Conflicts, etc.)
"We had a change in government due to the Vietnam War ending. Also, the U.S. and Vietnam established neutral relations. Without it, I wouldn’t be able to come to America."
What was your first paying job?
"I was a tutor in college."

"No"
Did any family members serve in the armed forces? If yes, please elaborate.

How has technology changed during your lifetime?
"It has changed a lot. We went from no electricity to electricity, computers, and airplanes, which is how I got to America."

"Guitar music."
What books were required reading in school?
"No books were required to be read in school, but I liked to read a lot of books."
Do you believe music, art, and literature have impacted your generation?
"Yes, music makes you feel good, books help you open your mind, but not art."

"The whole village had to borrow my dad’s electricity generator for musical concerts/events. We were the only family with electricity."
